Born in Paris, Claire Chollat-Traquet Saïta left France in her twenties to follow an international career that gave her the opportunity to work in more than 90 countries and to acquaint herself with a variety of styles and cultures.
As a painter Claire has followed an original path, starting in the 60’s and 70’s with collages and modern style pastels. Later her style evolved under the influence of Japanese landscapes, towards a more classical and figurative expression.
Based in Austria but a frequent traveller to Asia, her paintings and drawings are mainly inspired by Japan- its park and gardens, its temples, the rich colours and lights typical of its seasons, the scary landscapes of the Japanese Alps and the bouquets of the Ikebana masters. However, the Alpine landscapes of her host country are also prominent in her oil paintings and ink drawings.
Claire paints with pleasure and optimism as is evident in her “tableaux”, be it the perfect world of Japanese gardens, the vertiginous summits of volcanoes, alpine valleys or the original portraits of houses, commissioned by her clients across the world.
